My fingerprints also graced global security matters and intricate collaborations for ship enhancements and repairs.
During my tenure at PRESTIGE CRUISE HOLDINGS (PCH), I finely tuned the art of managing luxury cruise ships, ensuring compliance, and optimizing itineraries. My leadership extended to port operations, where I managed port’s disbursements, planned itineraries, managed global security and the fuel procurement budget.
My mark at CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES is seen in the reorganization of the Marine and Technical Department and in obtaining and sustaining certifications for industry standards.
My journey includes impactful roles at MARTINOLI SAM/PRESTIGE CRUISE MANAGEMENT SAM (MC), and COSTA CROCIERE S.p.A., where I honed my skills as a Safety and Quality Superintendent and Staff Captain, respectively.

Ginger Garte
Environmental, Decarbonization and Sustainability
Ginger Garte is a purpose-driven sustainability leader with experience advising fortune 500 companies on their net-positive culture. One that reduces climate-related risk and gives back to society. She is an adaptive systems thinker, who guides clients on how to embed ESG culture, and mindset, foster inclusive, collaborative teams, and commit to the long-term timelines it takes to tackle decarbonization.
During her career, Ginger has held notable roles such as Sustainability Director with Lloyd’s Register, where she contributed to advancing global industry standards and practices, during her appointment as a senior advisor to United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) decarbonization hub and resilience4ports lab, additionally she has held roles of Superintendent, Environmental Health & Safety Department, at Carnival and Senior Analyst, Environmental Stewardship Department, Royal Caribbean Group.
Her expertise includes Leading ESG initiatives, Leading Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) teams, thought leadership in supply chain circularity, and resilient port infrastructure, certifying regulatory compliance standards, overseeing due diligence, risk, and gap analysis investigations. She specializes in natural resource conservation and protection plans, delivers personalized stakeholder engagement workshops as well as onsite training to develop stewardship strategy.
Ginger holds a degree in Geological Science from Virginia Tech and served as a U.S. Commissioned Officer with the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Corps, for five years onboard NOAA’s research ships and land-based laboratories. Her scientific research on ecosystems has been published in journals, books and podcasts.
Alfonso Longo

Alfonso Longo is a seasoned Maritime Executive with an extensive background spanning over two decades in both shipboard and shoreside roles. He is known for his exceptional leadership skills and a proven track record in driving maritime operations to excellence. Alfonso has consistently demonstrated a commitment to safety, protection of assets, and cost-effective management.
With a career deeply anchored in maritime safety culture, Alfonso is highly skilled in Regulatory compliance encompassing Security, Environmental, Occupational, Health, and Safety, Dry Dock and New-Building operations, Logistic Operations Management, Technical & Port operations. His diverse expertise also covers Recruitment, Accidents & Incidents management, Risk Assessment, Quality Control & Assurance, Policy Development, Project Management, Emergency Systems, and Procurement efficiencies.
Alfonso played a pivotal role during his tenure at Carnival Cruise Line. He served as the company’s Representative Officer during a FEMA charter post-hurricane Katrina, contributing to emergency safety, security, technical, and environmental procedures development. His leadership was pivotal in unifying Safety Management System (SMS) auditing and inspections processes during the merger of Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, leading to the establishment of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.
Alfonso’s impact extended to multiple cruise lines, such as Royal Caribbean Group, where he served as Global Director of Maritime Safety & Investigations. His role as Vice President of Marine Safety, Compliance & Quality Assurance at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings showcased his prowess in Governance, Regulatory Compliance, and Safety Management System implementation. Alfonso’s dedication to maritime safety and excellence has earned him recognition on international platforms, including committee memberships and certifications across ISM, ISPS, ILO, ISO standards, and more.

Luca Portelli holds a master in business administration from the University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley – one of the best Public Universities in the United States of America. His expertise lies in project management and project evaluation. At Seawolf International, he’s in charge of reviewing projects preparing forecasts related to the needed investment’s budget and the related ROI calculations. All this packaged in a comprehensive, strategic financial analysis. He is dedicated to optimizing resource allocation and facilitating informed decision-making for impactful project outcomes. He holds a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification from Villanova University.
Capt Giovanni Schiaffino
Nautical Assessments and Maneuvering Simulations
Captain Giovanni Schiaffino is a seasoned seafarer. His maritime history began 40 years ago after graduating from the oldest Nautical Institute in Europe, the “Cristoforo Colombo” in Camogli Genoa. His career has developed starting from tanker ships, trading worldwide, to cruise vessels, to mega yachts and finally back to cruise ships where he got his Command in September 2019.
Captain’s Schiaffino skills are not only encompassing his unquestionable nautical and technical capabilities but are expanding to Human Relations matters too. With his focus being the safety and wellbeing of all on board he is extremely keen on constantly monitoring his crew and he spends quite some time “below deck” making himself always available to them. These qualities make him a terrific team leader and incredible mentor for his Officers also while in vacation when he spends most of the time teaching at the Merchant Marine Academy of Genoa.
His deep knowledge of the maritime world, the passion for his job and for working in a multicultural environment brought him to be a talented leader capable of managing also the most complicated situations.
Robert "Bob" Ward
Global Maritime Security Specialist and Investigator
Bob stands as a recognized and industry-endorsed professional with over 45 years of unwavering dedication to the field of Law Enforcement and Global Maritime Security.
Throughout his career in the Cruise Industry, Bob has earned accolades for his tireless commitment to maritime security. He has had a trusted liaison with Government Agencies, including in the UK, Special Branch & His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), in the USA, the Drugs Enforcement Agency (DEA) and FBI, and in Australia the AFP.
There are many defining achievement in Bob’s careers. In Law Enforcement he specialised in covert operations and subsequent investigations. In the Cruise Industry he has a vast experience both working at sea, and in senior management, completing his last appointment as Senior Director of Global Security and Investigations. In this position, Bob was responsible for all aspects of Maritime Security for at that time 28 cruise vessels and the Global Security Operations of the company. This included, but not limited to, all International and statutory required certification and associated documentation, purchase of and maintenance of equipment, training, setting up of new operations in the Far East and Australasia, and internal onboard investigations.
A further area of expertise for Bob, is the management, and associated training and procurement of equipment, required for the maintenance of an auditable and accountable onboard drug and alcohol policy. He implemented such within his last role for 30,000 shipboard personnel.
Bob has a wealth of knowledge and experience. He is a mentor to emerging professionals, and a beacon of excellence in the maritime security domain. Since retiring he makes his expertise available for limited consultancy work within the Maritime Industry for all security related matters and for internal investigations.
